Lyric Obsession

So, I just heard a new Miranda Lambert song, and of course, love it. Anything she does is amazing, but this is even better, because its a song about the military/war/politics, etc. Anyway, I was looking up the lyrics to post on my Blog, and then realized that Miranda's version is a cover to Merle Haggard's original song. Whoops. I guess I'm not too knowledgeable about classic country.
I do know, though, that country music is the most patriotic. And no matter who sings it, it gets me pumped up.

Fightin' Side of Me
Miranda Lambert..... or Merle Haggard

I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way they have to live here in this country,
Harpin' on the wars we fight,
An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.
I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
An' standin' up for things that they believe in.

When they're runnin' down our country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song that I'm singin' be a warnin'.
When you're runnin' down our country, hoss,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

I read about some squirrely guy,
Who claims, that he just don't believe in fightin'.
An' I wonder just how long,
The rest of us can count on bein' free.
They love our milk an' honey,
But they preach about some other way of livin'.

When you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down a way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song that I'm singin' be a warnin'.
When you're runnin' down my country, hoss,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

As I was cruisin' today, with the windows rolled down and Brody shotgun beside me, this song came on. And it was perfect, to say the least. When I sing at the top of my lungs and make up my own drivin' dance moves, Georgian drivers look at me weird. Its a Cali thing, I guess... or maybe just a Katelyn thing?

I got no money in my pockets
I got a hole in my jeans
I had a job and I lost it
But it won't get to me

'Cause I'm ridin' with my baby
And it's a brand new day
We're on the wings of an angel
Flyin' away

And the sun is shinin'
This road keeps windin'
Through the prettiest country
From Georgia to Tennessee
And I got the one I love beside me
My troubles behind me
I'm alive and I'm free
Who wouldn't wanna be me

I got no money in my pockets
I got a hole in my jeans
We're on the wings of an angel
And I'm free

Ahhh.. The fact of me being broke was quite alright at that point in time.

Drew is out in the field until Wednesday, so its just me and Brody (aka Bubba). I start boot camp tomorrow, so if I survive, I'll write about the experience tomorrow.
